Out Of Sight. (1996)
Another totally rando library choice. "Elmore, that's a funky name, let's see what ol' Elmore has to say for himself..."
Googled him and he's written 30 something novels....... but only started writing them at the age of 50? May have a wealth of life experience to draw upon.
The blurbs though, fuck me. Sure, blurbs gonna blurb but these blurbs completely rushmored the book up to levels dirty ol' Elmo surely wouldn't have appreciated. "Greatest living thriller writer", "Greatest ear for dialogue ever" etc. Which of course leads the reader to expect the moon on a goddamn stick.
I did not get the moon on a stick.
The dialogue wasn't all that ffs. Kind of atonal and porous and 2-D really. Sorry, Elmore.
Story is a post-prison break "romance" in which the "romance" bit seemed completely implausible and vicarious and so poorly shoehorned right the fuck in there as to be basically non-existent.
A rock solid 6/10. All it needed was for every single character in the book to be re-rendered as actual separate identifiable human entities.
