The Man In The High Castle (1962)
Really disappointed in my first PK Dick novel. It's barely a "novel" at all. More like a political treatise with tone deaf dialogue that's had a novel structure shoehorned in there. May as well have written a book of essays opining about alternate futures. Jumping around annoyingly from setting to setting, wayyyy too many character names splashed about, who's who, who the fuck knows, it probably all made perfect sense in the authors head but by the time it got to the page it was all over the shop. Can easily see why a bigger deal isnt made of Dick as a novelist despite being the mind behind Blade Runner, Minority Report, Total Recall, etc
5/10.
Huge struggle to finish this. Not often I get 2/3rds the way through a novel and really want to give up there.
